genetic testing & embryology
Greater Insight.
More Informed Decisions.
Genetic testing and advanced embryology can provide important information about embryos during IVF—but more information isn't automatically better for every patient.
At Davies Fertility & IVF Specialists, these technologies are considered based on your medical history, reproductive circumstances, and treatment goals, with experienced clinical judgment guiding when and how they may be useful.
The Right Information Can Guide Better Decisions.
Not every IVF patient needs genetic testing, and not every available technology adds meaningful information to every treatment plan. The key is understanding what a test can tell us, what it cannot, and whether the results could meaningfully influence your care.
Understanding Genetic Testing & Advanced Embryology
What Are These Technologies?
Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) examines cells from embryos created through IVF before embryo transfer. Different forms of PGT can look for chromosome-number differences, specific inherited genetic conditions, or certain structural chromosome rearrangements.

Advanced embryology encompasses the laboratory techniques used to support fertilization, embryo development, assessment, biopsy when appropriate, cryopreservation, and preparation for transfer.

Why Davies for Genetic Testing & Advanced Embryology
Advanced Science. Thoughtful Clinical Judgment.
Testing With Purpose
We recommend genetic testing when it can provide meaningful information to guide your treatment—not simply because the technology is available.
Advanced IVF Lab
Embryo biopsy is performed by experienced embryologists in Davies’ IVF laboratory, recognized as a LifeAire Center of Excellence.
Connected Clinical
& Lab Care
Your fertility care and embryology work are closely coordinated, keeping laboratory information connected to the decisions guiding your treatment.
Specialized PGT Options
PGT-A, PGT-M, and PGT-SR are available when appropriate, allowing testing to address different reproductive and genetic circumstances.
Your Care Journey
What Your Care May Look Like
Consultation & Review
We'll review your history, treatment plan, and whether genetic testing may provide useful information.
IVF & Embryo Development
Embryos are created through IVF and monitored as they develop in the laboratory.
Biopsy & Testing
When appropriate, cells are biopsied from developing embryos and sent for genetic analysis.
Reviewing Your Results
We'll review your results and discuss how they may influence decisions about embryo transfer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common Questions About Genetic Testing
No. Genetic testing isn't necessary for every IVF patient. Whether it may be useful depends on factors such as your medical and reproductive history, age, genetic risks, and treatment circumstances.
PGT-A looks for chromosome-number differences, PGT-M tests for specific single-gene conditions, and PGT-SR evaluates certain structural chromosome rearrangements. The type of testing considered depends on your circumstances.
No. Genetic testing can provide information to help guide treatment decisions, but it cannot guarantee implantation, pregnancy, or a healthy baby.
No. Prenatal screening and diagnostic testing may still be recommended during pregnancy even when an embryo has undergone PGT.
